Using best practices in simulation-based learning experiences in healthcare settings can be demystified by focusing on its benefits and seamless integration into training programs. Evidence-based simulation education provides a psychologically safe environment for learners to practice and hone clinical skills without risking patient safety. Emphasizing evidence-based simulation outcomes, such as improved decision-making, teamwork, and patient care, helps understand its value. Clear communication on how simulation mirrors realistic scenarios, and constructive guidance and feedback can make the simulation experience more approachable. Evidence-based debriefing sessions help normalize its use, fostering confidence and competence among healthcare professionals
Carrie Miller Ph.D., RN, CNE, CHSE-A, IBCLC, FAAN graduated with her BSN from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1991, her MSN-ED from the University of Phoenix in 2006, and her Ph.D. from Washington State University in 2013. Dr. Miller has published in several peer-reviewed journals and contributes to simulation science by offering her expertise as a peer reviewer for several journals focusing on simulation and maternal/newborn content. Dr. Miller is active in the International Nursing Association Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) through her work on the Education Committee and the INACSL Simulation Education Program (ISEP). Dr. Miller has created the Washington State Simulation (WSSP) task force. WSSP provides simulation expertise to the Washington Board of Nursing and simulation centers across Washington state to provide simulation faculty development on best practices.
